our green policy

Morpheus has adopted the view expressed by the Bruntland Commission that sustainable development "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (1987).

Although we do not directly create waste as a by-product of the processes we use to service our customers, we accept that as a natural consequence of being in business we consume renewable and non-renewable resources and generate waste. It is our policy that we minimise any negative impact of our business by the following means.

Electricity

Our building has been designed to minimise the use of power by:

  • Using natural light supplemented by low-voltage lighting in all areas
  • Using natural draft cooling via louvers to replace air-conditioning in all areas except the computer room
  • Staff are asked to ensure that all unused lights are switched off, especially at night and that computers are downed or put into power-save mode wherever possible.

Recycling

Facilities are available for the collection of waste paper and cardboard, cans and plastics. These are taken to a recycling facility each week. Confidential documents will be shredded before recycling.

Water

The toilets use a low-flush system to conserve water. Staff are asked to be thoughtful in their use of taps.

Asset disposal

All assets that reach the end of their life are either:

  • offered to charities where appropriate (e.g. PCs and furniture) or;
  • re-cycled where possible (e.g. desks etc) or as a last resort;
  • disposed of in accordance with legislation.

Travel

Where possible and practicable use public transport. If public transport does not meet requirements, staff are asked to share vehicles to minimise the number used.

Paper, toner and inks

Staff are asked to minimise printing in favour of email and the electronic central file system and to reuse scrap paper. Where printing is required (e.g. client communications etc.) the paper used will be from stock that is manufactured so as to minimise environmental damage. Expired toners and cartridges will be recycled through charities.
