Ignite/400
The Client
IGNITe/400, the International Group for Networking, Internet Technologies
and e-business is an international e-business resource centre.
IGNITe/400 functions as a non-profit association, where users, developers and resellers of the IBM iSeries and related products go to share experiences, seek advice and discuss new technologies.
Launched on July 4, 1998, the site is the brainchild of our Chief Technical Architect Bleddyn Williams and Bob Cancilla, the director of systems planning and administration at Republic Indemnity Company of America. The two e-business enthusiasts have poured tremendous energy and hard work into creating the web site. It is the only forum of its kind for the iSeries user community.
The Objective
To spread the word about the e-business capability of the IBM iSeries
platform and to provide an effective resource for business people who
have developed, or plan to launch, e-business applications.
The Solution
The site features interactive forums, a search engine and free downloadable
software. IGNITe/400 now has over 4,000 members, and attracts at least
300 visitors every day searching for, or posting, new information.
IGNITe/400 also provides documentation, sample code and a solutions provider directory that helps users find experts worldwide. A showcase of web sites offers businesses a stage to present innovative e-business ideas.
Other features include the introduction of online conferences, providing streaming audio, interactive presentations and moderated chat that run on the iSeries. There are also opportunities to communicate directly with the iSeries University management team at IBM, providing real input to their course development.
IGNITe/400 has also introduced a monthly e-business newsletter. Contributors to the newsletter include various authors from within IBM.
The newsletter provides strategic direction and hands-on technical articles from both IBM developers, and IGNITe/400 members implementing real e-business solutions.
